Music - The Cure

I think that The Cure is one of the most significant groups in the history of rock music. It's true that Robert Smith's voice is very particular. It is one of these voices that one either loves or hates. Like many other Cure fans I've met, I believe that their "golden age" was the first one - and that means until "Pornography". "Boys Don't Cry" was classic, "Faith" and "Seventeen Seconds" were really break-through albums but "Pornography" was by far their masterpiece. For many first period Cure fans, "The Walk" was something like betrayal, especially after "Pornography". But anyway, Cure continued to produce great music and the years that followed.

I saw The Cure live in 1985 in "Rock-In-Athens Festival" and they were really good. It was true that The Cure was the most influential rock group in Greece, not only in terms of music but also in terms of life-style and dressing: there was a time that walking in the streets of Athens and other cities you would come across hundreds and hundreds of "Robert Smiths" . The funny thing was that this 1985 Cure concert I attended, was held in a stadium full of "Robert Smiths". Some friends told me that they saw the real Robert Smith for one moment, but they thought that he was just another fake-Robert-Smith Cure fan!!

Until recently Cure were producing great music. "Bloodflowers" was a really good album. A few days ago I was reading in a magazine about a new release of a double album with The Cure singles both in normal and acoustic version, but unfortunately I haven't heard it yet.

There are innumerable web sites for The Cure on the Net. Their official site is here. An excellent site for Cure is also "Cold Colors" and one of the most detailed sites about The Cure is "Stiff as Toys and Tall as Men".
